Audio Technology Tours use state-of-the-art audio broadcasting and listening technology so that visitors can hear every word of the tour perfectly and tour guides can speak in a normal, conversational tone.
In order to ensure the return of this equipment, tour participants will be required to leave a driver’s license or major credit card as collateral at the tour desk during the duration of the tour. (One piece of collateral per party.)
Please read our disclaimer (PDF) for other important information.
The Bridge Photo Experience
The Round House also offers the Bridge Photo Experience. Become a “virtual visitor” to off-limits areas through “green screen” photography, which can make you appear to be climbing the main cables or standing atop the South Tower of the Bridge! Photo Experience hours: 10 am-6 pm, 7 days a week.
Plan Your Visit
Make your visit to the Golden Gate Bridge an enjoyable and comfortable experience by planning ahead.
Helpful Tips
- Remember photo ID or a credit card! You'll need one of these per group in order to check out audio equipment for the tour.
- Luggage, backpacks, and packages cannot be stored for you during the tour─plan on bringing everything with you or, better yet, leave it at your hotel.
- Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, motor-driven bicycles/cycles, roller blades or skates, "wheelie" shoes, Segways, and weapons are not allowed on the tour.
- Minors under the age of 18 attending a tour must be accompanied by an adult. Children under age 5 must be under direct physical parental control at all times on the tour (stroller, harness, backpack, or hand-holding).
- Pets and companion animals (with the exception of service animals) are not allowed on tours or in the Round House.
- Food and beverages are available at the Bridge Cafe (9 am-6 pm).
- Tours, both day and evening, are entirely walking tours on slightly uneven pavement. The total mileage is approximately 0.75 miles (1.2 km). Athletic or walking shoes are strongly recommended.
- There is no ATM on site. Bring change for the meters if you plan on parking at the Bridge.
Weather The climate at the bridge is unpredictable and can change suddenly. Cold, foggy mornings can give way to sunny afternoons, which in turn can shift quickly back to more fog and cold.
The most pleasant weather usually occurs in the spring and fall. Summers are cool, windy, and foggy. Strong, cold afternoon winds are common during every season. Rain is common in the winter and spring.
We recommend dressing in layers, including a sweater or sweatshirt and a windbreaker. Cold weather gear and rain gear are available for purchase at the Bridge Pavilion Store.
Bridge Tours are conducted almost entirely outside, so dress accordingly. Tour tickets are not refundable due to weather conditions.
Parking and Public Transportation Parking at the bridge plaza extremely limited─there are approximately 20 metered spots, with three accessible spots, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional parking is also available nearby in two satellite lots (PDF directions) on the south side. Please plan sufficient time to find parking before your tour time.
We encourage you to take public transportation if possible. You can plan your trip using 511.org or find details at the Golden Gate Bridge website.
You can also ride a bicycle to the bridge plaza (bike racks are available) or take one of several tour buses that run throughout the city. Visit the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau for more information.
Groups
Golden Gate Bridge Tours welcome groups to visit throughout the season. However, due to size limitations, groups are defined as 15 guests with a maximum of 25 permitted per tour. If you would like to book an all adult group, please contact the Bridge Tours Group Services Department by calling (877) 349-7625 or via email at groups@goldengatebridgetour.com.
Senior/Special Needs Groups Please refer to our disclaimer (PDF) to better determine whether this tour is right for your group.
Concierge/Tour Operators Net rates are available if you are interested in adding Golden Gate Bridge Tours to your current program. Certain restrictions apply. Please call our reservations department for more details at (415) 430-1628.
Youth Groups Youth groups may only book the 10:30 am tour. For safety concerns, all youth groups must include one chaperone 21 years of age or older for every five youth ages 18 and under. No refunds are given for groups who arrive without proper chaperone ratios. Bridge Tour docents reserve the right to check photo ID of all chaperones. Please note all youth must be closely supervised at all times while on the Bridge Tour for their own safety.
Your group will need to complete and send back a Chaperone Responsibility Checklist (PDF) prior to your trip date. It outlines our rules while on tour and also what is to be expected from each chaperone. The Golden Gate Bridge Tour policies are strictly enforced and chaperones accompanying youth have a serious responsibility to the children in their charge.
